Onion Gravy Smothered Steak – Old Fashioned Southern Recipe!

Season the steaks with salt and pepper. Dredge the steaks in flour, shaking off the excess.
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steaks and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned. Remove the steaks from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, add butter and let it melt. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they become soft and caramelized, about 10 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
Stir in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, tomato paste, dried thyme, and dried rosemary. Bring to a simmer.
Return the steaks to the skillet, covering them with the onion gravy. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20-30 minutes, or until the steaks are tender.
If the gravy needs thickening, mix cornstarch with water and stir into the gravy. Cook for a few more minutes until thickened.
Serve the steaks with the onion gravy over rice, mashed potatoes, or your favorite side.
